The validity of doctors forbidding fasting / the Grand Ayatollah Khamenei’s Fatwa

SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Khamenei answered a question about the validity of doctors forbidding fasting.

Question: If a doctor forbids fasting, considering that some doctors do not have knowledge of religious laws; is it Wajib to act on doctor’s instruction?

The Grand Ayatollah Khamenei: If the person is certain about doctor’s instruction that fasting is harmful to him/her, or is afraid of any harm by doctor’s sayings or any other rational source; fasting is not Wajib for him/her, and also is not allowed.
