Shafaqna English– Huge crowds lined the Avenue des Champs-Élysées in Paris on Saturday for the biggest event of Pope Leo’s French tour. The event was an open-air Mass, and officials estimated the attendance at around 800,000 people. At the Mass, the Pope urged Catholics to prioritize faith over material wealth in their search for happiness.
The crowd erupted in chants of “Leo, Leo” and “Long live the Pope” as the popemobile carried him along the tree-lined avenue. The boulevard runs about 2 km (1.2 miles), from the Place de la Concorde to the Arc de Triomphe. Along the route, people pushed against security barriers, hoping to get even a brief look at Pope Leo.
