Shafaqna English– Pope Leo made his position clear on Sunday. He met with French survivors of abuse. At that meeting, he restated a firm promise. He is committed to ending the abuse of children by Catholic priests. The Vatican shared this news publicly. The timing mattered.
Just hours earlier, the pope had called on the Church to do something hard. He asked it to admit its own failures. He also urged it to heal what he called its “deep wounds.”
The private meeting ran for two hours. It brought together seven survivors. The setting was France, during a weekend trip by Pope Leo. His visit included three cities. In the meeting, the pope met each victim one-on-one.
He heard their proposals. Their focus was clear: how to make the Church’s safeguarding measures stronger. A Vatican statement later confirmed these points.
