Shafaqna English- United Nations Secretary-General spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated that the UN chief has consistently expressed concern regarding the increasing use of unilateral sanctions, emphasizing that these measures ultimately harm ordinary people.
During a press briefing, an IRNA correspondent inquired about the impact of US sanctions on Iran, specifically regarding their effects on access to medicine and aviation safety.
Dujarric replied, “Look, what I will tell you is that the Secretary-General has often expressed his concern about the increasing use of unilateral sanctions, which wind up hurting ordinary people wherever they are put in place.”
The remarks come amid renewed international debate over the humanitarian consequences of unilateral coercive measures against the Iranian nation.
A UN Human Rights Council discussion has also highlighted concerns that such measures can disproportionately affect vulnerable populations and restrict access to essential resources, including healthcare.
The United States has sanctioned Iran for decades. Following the military aggression of the US and the Israeli regime against Iran, Washington is expanding economic pressure. On August 24, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said US President Donald Trump had ordered an economic exclusion operation targeting Iran and its supporters.
