AI chatbots remove Muslim women’s hijabs when prompted

Shafaqna English- When prompted, AI chatbots can edit images to remove Muslim women’s hijabs, violating a highly visible expression of faith.

The Guardian tested ChatGPT, Grok, Gemini and Claude using an AI-generated image of a hijab-wearing woman. ChatGPT and Grok complied. Claude said it lacks image-editing and generation features and would not remove a hijab from a photo.

Gemini first said it could not remove clothing or head coverings from real people without consent. But when asked to make the woman look more “western”, it generated an image without her hijab.
