Shafaqna English- 74% of households in accessible areas of government-controlled Yemen could not meet basic food needs, the highest level this year and an indication that food security is “significantly deteriorating,” the UN’s World Food Program (WFP) said in an operational update on Friday.
Recent WFP monitoring found that nearly three in four households in accessible areas of government-controlled Yemen are unable to meet their basic food needs as renewed fighting drives displacement and disrupts markets and humanitarian access.
More than 149,000 people have been displaced by renewed fighting, according to the International Organization for Migration.
The deterioration comes as conflict and rising prices further constrain access to food, the WFP said.
