Shafaqna English- Women and girls now make up 53% of the projected 22 million additional individuals who may face food insecurity by the end of this year due to the escalation in the Middle East, according to a report by UN Women.
This translates to approximately 11.7 million women and girls across the 28 countries analyzed, in addition to an estimated 208 million people who were already food insecure or undernourished.
“When food becomes scarce, women eat less and are the last to eat,” said UN Women Deputy Executive Director Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda.
She pointed out that women often resort to less nutritious diets or skip meals entirely to prioritize the needs of others.
