Shafaqna English- Global Refuge, one of the largest refugee resettlement organizations in the United States, has expressed its opposition to the Fiscal Year 2027 presidential determination.
This determination sets the+ ceiling at 17,500 and allocates these spots primarily to Afrikaners from South Africa.
The ceiling is among the lowest in the program’s history — a fraction of the roughly 92,000 average set by presidents of both parties since 1980. In Fiscal Year 2026, all but five refugees admitted came from South Africa; as recently as the 2024 fiscal year, the United States welcomed refugees facing persecution and oppression from more than 85 countries.
