SHAFAQNA – MUSLIMS who were awake breaking their Ramadan fast bravely alerted their sleeping neighbours as flames engulfed the Grenfell Tower last night.
Residents who were awake for Suhur – a meal Muslims eat at 1am during the holy month before fasting again – frantically ran around the building banging on doors after smelling smoke.
They were praised as a “lifeline” for helping people flee as it was claimed fire alarms and sprinklers were not working in the death tower.
Khalid Suleman Ahmed, 20, who lives on the eighth floor of Grenfell Tower, told the Huffington Post: “No fire alarms went off and there were no warning. I was playing PlayStation waiting to eat suhur then smelt smoke.
“I got up and looked out of my window and saw the seventh floor smoking. I woke my auntie up, then got clothes on and started knocking on neighbours’ doors.
