Taliban seizes Shia-dominated Mirza Olang in Afghanistan

SHAFAQNA – Mirza Olang valley of Sar-e-Pul province has once again fallen to the Taliban, provincial council officials said on Saturday.

Mohammad Noor Rahmani, the head of the Sar-e-Pul provincial council, said that Taliban carried out an attack on Thursday night in the Sayyad district of the province and took control of the valley.

However, General Khalil Dastyar, police chief of Sar-e-Pul said the Afghan security forces that were in the district made a tactical withdrawal.

Dastyar also said the Afghan security forces intend to conduct an operation in the Mirza Olang valley.

This comes after Mirza Olang Valley fell to the Taliban and ISIS in August. Following the collapse, insurgents targeted civilians and killed around 50 villagers.
