Bahrain’s jailed opposition leader’s family expresses concern over his deteriorating health

SHAFAQNA – The family of Bahrain’s jailed opposition leader and cancer survivor, Hassan Mushaima, expressed their growing concern over his deteriorating health.

According to Mushaima’s loved ones, authorities at Bahrain’s Jaw Prison have continued to deny the opposition figure his periodic cancer screening for over a year.

The family is worried that the neglect could lead to the recurrence of the cancer.

Mushaima requires a PET scan every six months. He is currently in remission for lymphoma cancer.

Mushaima served as the secretary-general of the Haq Movement before being sentenced to life in prison over charges stemming from his calls for democratic reforms in Bahrain.
