Iran, Turkey presidents discussed bilateral relations

SHAFAQNA– Iranian and Turkish presidents met on Friday afternoon and discussed bilateral relations as well as the Syria crisis and regional developments.

The meeting between Rouhani and Erdogan occurred on the sidelines of a summit of Iranian, Russian and Turkish presidents on Syria.

Iran and Turkey should develop their relations to thwart the US sanctions, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said in a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

During the meeting, the Iranian president called for using national currencies and updating preferential trade agreements between Tehran and Ankara.

Iran and Turkey relations with Russia, Pakistan and Qatar can guarantee peace and stability in the region, he noted.

The Turkish president for his part described the US position on other countries as unacceptable.

Tehran and Ankara should develop their banking cooperation, promote their trade exchanges and use their national currencies, he noted.

Russian and Turkish presidents arrived in Iran on Tuesday afternoon to attend a trilateral meeting with Iranian president Hassan Rouhani to discuss the Syria crisis, IRNA reported.
