Attacks on Muslims and mosques dropped in Germany

SHAFAQNA- According to media reports, the number of attacks on Muslims and mosques has fallen significantly in Germany in first 9 months of 2018 in comparsion to last year.
The German authorities had recorded a total of 578 anti-Muslim hate crimes commited from January to September. Compared to last year, the amount of these crimes has fallen. However, many people were injured in the attacks. The statistics were given by the ministry of the Federal Republic of Germany [1]in response to the request of left-wing political parties in the country. They made this information availabe to Neuen Osnabrücker Zeitung newspaper.
According to the statistics, about 780 Islamophobic [2]hate crimes were recorded in the first nine months of 2017. In almost all of these cases, it was said that right-wing extremist were responsible for the attacks. According to newly released statistics, in the third quarter of this year, 190 crimes were recorded which is same as last year. Insulting and offending were most of the crimes reported this year. However, some cases of criminal coercion and physical force were reported. Police also recorded criminal damage to property and graffiti but no information is available for the amount of damage to the property.
However, according to the German Ministry of the Interior, 40 people were injured in attacks on Muslims [3] this year. This reveal that the number of people injured in such conflicts has increased. In 2017, in the same period of time, 27 people were injured and 32 persons were injured through 12 months.
In addition, the left-wing parties are worried that the process of decline of attacks will be stopped.
In addition, they guess that 50 to 70 complaints related to the third quarter of this year may be recorded later.
“Because of riots of far-right extremists in Chemnitz city located in eastern Germany we guess that more complaints will be recorded,” the domestic political expert of the left-wing, Ulla Jelpke said. She thinks that the violence against Muslims is getting worse even in the political area: “Muslims are marginalized and Islam is not accepted as part of Germany.” She called on to cope with this trend.
