SHAFAQNA- The Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Al-Sistani met with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Dr Hassan Rouhani and the accompanying delegation on Wednesday morning March 13.
The Grand Ayatollah Sistani recalled the sacrifices of the Iraqi people and the role of friends in fighting ISIS during a meeting with President Rouhani.
The Iranian President described the results of talks with the Iraqi officials and what has been achieved within the framework of strengthening friendship and good relations between the two countries.
The Grand Ayatollah Sistani welcomed all efforts to strengthen Iraq’s relation with its neighbors on the basis of mutual interests and respect for the sovereignty of all the countries concerned as well as non-interference in internal affairs. Referring to the war with ISIS, he recalled the great sacrifices of the Iraqi people and the role of friends in fighting the terrorist group and to eliminate the danger of ISIS from the whole region.
The Grand Ayatollah Sistani also pointed to the most important challenges currently facing Iraq which include combating corruption, improving public services, monopolizing weapons in the hands of the government and security services, and expressed his hope that the Iraqi government would make progress in these cases. Finally he emphasized the point that regional and international policies in this sensitive region to be balanced in order that the people of the region are more protected from damages and difficulties.
