Pope sends 100,000 euros to Iran flood victims

SHAFAQNA- Pope Francis sent 100,000 euros (US$113,000) to assist victims of floods in Iran who lost their homes and businesses.

Donation will be distributed with the help of the Vatican nunciature in Tehran, crux reported.

“In the course of the past two weeks, violent flooding struck the northeast and southern regions of Iran, and there is fear flooding will continue in the coming days,” the Dicastery said in a statement April 12.

Exceptional rainfalls since March 19 have flooded some 1,900 cities and villages across Iran, claiming over 70 lives and causing hundreds of millions of dollars of damage to Iranian water and agriculture infrastructures. Floods have affected several provinces in the north and west of the country including, Golestan, Mazandaran, Lorestan, and Khuzestan, Mehr News Agency told.
