SHAFAQNA- A group of medical experts and consultants affiliated to London-based Islamic Human Rights commission on Thursday visited Nigeria’s top Muslim cleric Sheikh Ibraheem al-Zakzaky and his wife, Mallima Zeenah who have been in detention since late 2015.
The Islamic Human Rights Commission, IHRC, confirmed that the Nigerian Government has finally allowed a team of foreign doctors to examine the health conditions of Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife.
The delegation led by UK-based Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) visited the cleric and his wife, Mallima Zeenah, on Thursday and highlighted the need for urgent investigations into their health which it hoped would be carried out in the next couple of days.
The IHRC, an NGO which campaigns for justice, said in a statement it “acknowledges the authorities’ change of position in making this possible and hopes this heralds a full and just resolution of the situation”, Mehr News Agency told.
The group said the delegation of expert doctors and consultants led by IHRC “have completed an initial investigation of Sheikh Zakzaky and Mallima Zeenah.”
Nigerian security forces attacked a Husseiniya in the city of Zaria in 2015. They also attacked Leader of Nigerian Islamic Movement Sheikh Ibraheem El Zakzaki’s house and wounded him severely before arresting him.
Over 1000 people were wounded and killed during the attack while 350 of them were buried in mass graves.
Nigerian forces also killed three of Sheikh El Zakzaki’s children in 2014.
In March, Kaduna State High Court ordered that El Zakzaky should be allowed by the government to bring doctors of his choice to examine him in the presence of doctors from the government, today.ng mentioned.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi on Saturday welcomed the promising policies adopted by Nigerian government in dealing with the status of the Nigerian political inmate Sheikh Ibraheem El Zakzaki.
“Nigerian government recently let the medical team visit and examine Sheikh Ibraheem El Zakzaki and his wife which is a positive move,” he said.
Mousavi expressed hope that full treatment of Sheikh Ibraheem El Zakzaki and his wife inside or outside of Nigeria help promote constructive dialogue between officials of Islamic Movement and the Nigerian government in order to help resolve the existing problems leading to his freedom, abna24 reported.
