Ayatollah Sistani announces Tue. May 7 as beginning of holy month of Ramadan in Iraq, nearby regions

SHAFAQNAThe office of Grand Ayatollah Seyed Ali al-Sistani in the holy city of Najaf has announced that Monday May 6 is the last day of Sha’aba in Iraq and nearby regions.

The statement released by the office reads, “As the ayatollah has not been convinced of spotting of the crescent of Ramadan on Sunday evening, Monday May 7 is considered as the last day of the month of Sha’aban. Therefore, according to his fatwa, Tuesday May 8 is the beginning of the fasting month of Ramadan, 1440.”
