SHAFAQNA- Representative of Shia marja’a Grand Ayatollah Seyed Ali al-Sistani who is on a tour of the Balkans Peninsula has visited the Catholic University in the port city of Rijeka, Croatia, and met with the archbishop of the Roman Church.
During this meeting, Seyed Javad Shahrestani said today’s world unfortunately suffers from extremism and terrorism and many innocent Muslims and Christians have fallen victim to extremists and violence-seekers. The Shia cleric reiterated that we could tackle violence, terror and injustice by holding talks under the umbrella of religions and boosting friendship and kindness between followers of different faiths.
The dean of Rijeka’s Catholic University Archbishop Ivan Devcic for his turn appreciated Shahrestani for his visit and said good relationships between monotheistic religions has great importance.
Devcic praised all local people in Rijeka as well as Croatia nationwide for living in harmony and peace, adding that Muslims, Catholic Christians and Protestants who live in the region enjoy good relations and the Catholic University is one of the religious centers that displays religious tolerance.
