SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Fayyaz answered a question about fasting for breastfeeding mothers.

Question: What is the ruling on fasting for mothers with suckling babies?

The Grand Ayatollah Fayyaz: If fasting is harmful for a breastfeeding mother or her baby, or another woman is not available to feed the baby, or she is not able to buy powdered milk, or powdered milk is harmful for the baby; in these cases she is allowed to do Iftar. But after the month of Ramadhan must do Qadha fasting. Also if not doing Iftar causes harm to the baby, paying Fedyah is necessary.
