Supreme Religious Authority: Kinship must be maintained, hearts are soft in Ramadan to take advantage of

SHAFAQNA- Imam Hussain: “Don’t let your fasting day be like your non-fasting day,” a saying by most of the infallible Imams the representative of the Shia Muslim Supreme Religious Authority, sheikh Abdul-Mehdi Elkerbela’i, mentioned in Friday’s sermon held at the Imam Hussain Shrine on May 24, 2019, when he talked about the month of Ramadhan and its privileges.

Elkerbela’i said Muslims ought to take advantage of Ramadhan to reform their social relationship system with their families and society, for Muslims, in Ramadhan, are more kind-hearted than they are in other months, and they welcome advice.

He added that people make mistakes, and that leads them to the need of introspection, noting that Ramadhan is the best time to re-evaluate oneself and rectify their faults.

ElKerbela’i also said that some of the issues that are threatening the social fabric are abandoning one another, dissension, and severance due to rivalry, conflict, crisis, and divergence in views and beliefs, adding that Islam and the infallible Imams (Peace Be Upon Them) wanted the Islamic society to be strong and coherent in order to be able to overcome problems and crises and show others the Islamic principles and values of cooperation and treating each other mercifully.

He called for reconsidering the supplication of Imam EsSejjad (Peace Be Upon Him), which is read before entering the month of Ramadhan, that says, “O, God, help us to fast Ramadhan by our restraining our senses from the acts of disobedience toward You, grant us success in maintaining kinship with our family and relatives with devotion and gifts, attend to our neighbors with bestowal and giving, visit those who have abandoned us, justly treat those who have wronged us, and make peace with those who show enmity toward us.”

Elkerbela’i stressed that kinship represents a general humanitarian and religious principle and value, and it does not denote only Muslims, but it denotes every person, adding that verses in the Noble Quran and sayings by the Ahlulbait (Peace Be Upon Them) urge people to maintain kinship with family and relatives, for God blesses those who comply with that in life and in the Hereafter.
