Ayatollah Khamenei: Nuclear weapon is HARAM/Trump: We do not want Iran to own nuclear weapons

pursuing peaceful nuclear energy

SHAFAQNA On Monday May 28, U.S President Donald Trump during a meeting with Japan’s prime minister claimed “We do not want Iran to have nuclear weapons”. This is despite the fact that Leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution in a fatwa issued 9 years ago prohibited the use of the weapons of mass destruction and said we consider the use of nuclear weapons and other types of weapons of mass destruction such as chemical and biological weapons as haram.

According to Shafaqna, the United States is the only country in the world, which has used such weapons against other nations and has been a major supplier of weapons of mass destruction to many countries. The United States also provided former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein with chemical weapons and he used them in the imposed war against the Iranian people.

Despite Donald Trump’s claims, Iran has repeatedly reiterated that it is not seeking to build nuclear warheads and the International Atomic Energy Agency in its continuous inspections has verified Iran’s compliance with the NPT.

In addition, the leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution in a fatwa issued on the occasion of Tehran International Conference on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation on April 17-18, 2010 presented another dimension to Iran’s unwillingness to build atomic arms.

Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei’s fatwa on the prohibition of the weapons of mass destruction on April 10, 2010 states:

“We believe that besides nuclear weapons, other types of weapons of mass destruction such as chemical and biological weapons also pose a serious threat to humanity. The Iranian nation which is itself a victim of chemical weapons feels more than any other nation the danger that is caused by the production and stockpiling of such weapons and is prepared to make use of all its facilities to counter such threats. We consider the use of such weapons as haram and believe that it is everyone’s duty to make efforts to secure humanity against this great disaster.”

Elsewhere he wrote, “Both shar’i and aqli [logic and reason] fatwas dictate that atomic arms should be banned.

Iran’s vice president reacted to President Trump’s remarks by saying “The Islamic Republic of Iran is not seeking nuclear weapons.” Eshaq Jahangri underlined “An arch-enemy who is our nation’s nemesis has seen madcap dreams for us, but its dreams will never come true. It sometimes threatens us with deployment of aircraft carriers and on the other times calls for negotiations. The enemy has been accusing Iran of pursuing atomic weapons for more than 20 years. Although, the UN Security Council and six world powers confirmed Iran’s refusal of atomic weapons, Mr. Trump in Tokyo again alleged Tehran is after weapons of mass destruction. Our leader’s fatwa also bans nuclear arms and this fatwa was registered as an IAEA’s document. Fourteen inspection reports by the international agency all rejected accusations against Iran.” Es’haq Jahangiri concluded that “Now it is U.S.’ turn to come to its mind and let the Middle East to remain calm, because the region will not enjoy security without Iran’s help.”

It is still unclear what Mr. Trump means when he claims he intends to prevent Iran having nuclear weapons? Or how long more the United States and its allies would go ahead with their double standards and making excuses in spite of Ayatollah Khamenei’s fatwa, the 2015 nuclear deal known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and the international inspections (from Iran’s nuclear facilities).
