SHAFAQNA– “The situation in Iraq has generally changed since the fall of Saddam; the Iraqis become close to Iran somehow with holding the elections after Ayad Allawi,” Dr. Hossein Rabiee, Professor of Geopolitics in Kharazmi University, told Shafaqna about the attack on the Iranian Consulate in Basra, Iraq .
“Neither Noori Maleki nor Heydar Al-Ebadi did not have hostile relationships with Iran at least. Iraq had very close relations with Iran during the period of Noori Maleki. And this close relation of a large Arab nation in the Persian Gulf region with Iran, caused a lot of sensitivity between the Global and regional powers. Specifically, Saudi Arabia felt a lot of danger and threat. For this reason, Saudi has always tried to prevent the formation of a friendship relation between Iran and Iraq,” he added.
He pointed that Apart from this, some Iraqis and Saddam’s old supporters in Iraq have nationalistic feelings and they are not pleased with the close relation of Iraq with Iran. Also the countries of the region and, above all, Saudi Arabia has made a lot of effort to end this relationship.
These issues will be managed in both Iran and Iraq
Professor of Geopolitics reiterated that despite this ongoing efforts, no special event will happen due to the presence of regional decision makers at the head of the two countries. These issues in both Iraq and Iran will be managed and will not hurt the formal relations between the two countries.
