Al-Azhar Scholar: I told Al-Azhar’s Sheikh to save Islam from Wahhabis

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) – Egyptian scholar responsible for Islamic Fiqh (religious jurisprudence) in Al-Azhar, Ahmad Mahmood Karimah, met with the Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi in Qom on Monday 08 September. In this meeting, the Egyptian scholar said: We are proud that the name Al-Azhar is taken from the name of the daughter of the Prophet of Islam (PBUH).

He added: In Al-Azhar, Fiqh is taught in 3 stages of general Fiqh, each Islamic denomination’s Fiqh and inter-religions Fiqh and in addition all doctoral projects must consider Jafari (Shia) Fiqh. Sheikh Karimah referred to his book written about Takfir and said: This book has been published by Egyptian religious ministry; I called Salafis in this book, Mostaslafeh; Takfiris even condemn Al-Azhar. The Egyptian scholar said: Many times I went to see the Sheikh of Al-Azhar and asked him to save Islam from Wahhabis; Wahhabis destroyed the entire Islamic heritage in Mecca and Medina.

Ahmad Mahmood Karimah continued: I have not seen anything bad about Shia Islam and that is why I have never written and will never write anything bad about Shia Islam. In his final remarks he said: The events of Morsi’s era were due to Muslim Brotherhood and Salafis and if they were allowed to continue with their ways, more killings and more Takfir could have ensued.
