SHAFAQNA- Egypt’s al-Azhar Islamic Center has dispatched a delegation of Muslim scholars to Colombia.

According to IINA, members of the delegation held meetings with students of two major universities in the Latin American country’s capital of Bogota.

During the sessions, they answered the students’ questions on Islam, its relation with other faiths and the compatibility of the Arab culture with other cultures.

They also discussed the issue of Palestine and genuine ways to achieve peace in the Middle East.

Islamophobia was another topic discussed in the delegation’s meetings in Colombia.

The scholars underlined that Islamophobia only exacerbates extremism and violence,

They also stressed that terrorism is not condoned by any religion and has no place in Islam.

During the meetings, the delegation distributed books on Islamic topics among the students.

Colombia is a country at the northern tip of South America.

There are around 15,000 Muslims in Colombia, accounting for less than half a percent of the total population.
