Al Khalifa forces raze recently reconstructed Shiite mosque

SHAFAQNA – Religious discrimination against Bahrain’s Shiite majority has been extended to the relaying of bricks from a toppled mosque.

On Sunday, bulldozers accompanied by Manama’s security forces destroyed a Shiite mosque in Hamad Town without any prior warning.

The destruction of the Imam al-Askari mosque comes after it was painstakingly rebuilt by local residents.

The structure was among dozens of Shiite religious gathering places that were initially razed to the ground during the onset of Bahrain’s uprising in 2011.

The widespread destruction was part of Manama’s crackdown against dissent within the country’s Shiite community.
