SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) – The IUMRS – MRS Singapore Young Researcher Award has been conferred upon an Iranian who is a full professor at Harvard Medical School

The IUMRS – MRS Singapore Young Researcher Award has been conferred upon an Iranian who is a full professor at Harvard Medical School.

The award, which went to Dr. Ali Khademhosseini, recognizes outstanding contributions by a researcher under the age of 40 in materials science and engineering.

It will be presented at the 2014 IUMRS-ICYRAM (October 24-29, 2014) conference in China along with a plenary lecture.

Khademhosseini, born in 1975 in Tehran, sports an SB in Chemical Engineering, and an MASc in Chemical and Biomedical Engineering, both awarded by the University of Toronto. He also gained his PhD in Bioengineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The academic’s research is based on developing micro- and nanoscale technologies to control cellular behavior with particular emphasis on developing microscale biomaterials and engineering systems for tissue engineering.

He is also developing organ-on-chip systems that aim to predict human response in vitro.

Khademhosseini was named to MIT Technology Review’s TR35 — the magazine’s annual list of the top 35 innovators under the age of 35 — for his development of “living legos” that can be used to make artificial organs.
