Ap.org/ Bahrain to hold Shia leader another 7 days

SHAFAQNA – Bahrain’s Public Prosecution says the leader of the country’s largest Shiite opposition group will remain in custody for another seven days pending further investigations into statements that allegedly incited violence.

The prosecution announced his detention on its official Twitter page Tuesday, but did not mention Sheikh Ali Salman by name.

Bahrain’s Attorney General Nayef Mahmoud said in a separate statement that prosecutors were following up on Interior Ministry accusations that Salman incited people to break the law, promoted political change through illegal force, incited hatred against specific segments of the society and defamed a governmental body.

His lawyer said Salman, the head of the Shiite opposition group al-Wefaq, is accused of inciting hatred against the Sunni-led monarchy and calling for its overthrow in a series of speeches made since 2012.
