Arab nations stand in solidarity with Tunisia after Sousse attack

SHAFAQNA - Friday’s Sousse attack was condemned by a number of Arab countries who expressed their solidarity with Tunisia and called on the international community to stand against terrorism.

At least 39 people were killed and 39 others were injured when a gunman opened fire on tourists at a popular Tunisian beach on Friday.

In a press conference on Saturday, the Tunisian government said the death toll included eight Britons, one German and one Belgian.

Daesh claimed responsibility for the attack, according to statements posted on social media.

Mohammad al-Momani, Jordan’s governmental spokesman, said in a statement that Jordan “refuses all violence” and expressed Jordan’s solidarity with the Tunisian government and people against terrorism, according to the Jordanian News Agency.

The Algerian Foreign Ministry also condemned the attack in a statement, describing it as a “coward terrorist assault” and expressed its “strong and unconditional solidarity” with Tunisia.

Also, the Moroccan Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the “terrorist attack” stating that it aims to destabilize Tunisia and its economy.

Izzat Risheq, a Hamas official, strongly condemned the attack saying on social media that it is contradicts the correct approach that “turned Tunisia into a model of democratic transformation.”

Meanwhile, a Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry source denounced the attack and said that terrorism aims only to “spread chaos, destruction and killing.”
