Ashura: Cellular services likely to be jammed for short time

SHAFAQNA- Minister for Interior Affairs Chaudhry Nisar Ali has issued directions for maintaining high-level of alertness during the next few days culminating in Ashura.

In a statement here, he said that the Ministry of Interior Affairs has deployed 32695 troops of the army and the civil armed forces including rangers, the Frontier Corps and the Frontier Constabulary across 54 districts to assist the provincial governments in maintaining law and order during the Muharram days.

In addition to that, 12 helicopters have also been stationed at various areas to extend air support cover throughout Pakistan, whereas cellular services may also be jammed for limited timings only at selective sensitive locations for 9th and 10th of Muharram.

He stated that all Muharram related activities were being monitored from the Control Room of the Ministry of Interior Affairs round the clock. “We are in continuous contact with provinces to ensure maximum protection for the security of mourners and general public,” he said.

For this purpose, the Interior Ministry is also in coordination with the intelligence agencies and information regarding threats to any specific area is being relayed forthwith for timely action to prevent any untoward activity.
