Ayatollah Khamenei received Erdogan and Putin

SHAFAQNA – Following the end of Tehran trilateral summit on Syrian settlement, Iranian Leader Ayatollah Khamenei received Turkish President Erdogan and Russian President Putin in separate meetings.

Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei called for Russia’s cooperation in containing US, saying that US is a threat against humanity and the possibility to contain it exists.

He referred to US defeat in Syria as a successful case of containing the Western country, adding “Americans have now experienced a real defeat in Syria and have been stopped short of reaching their goals there.”

US’s imposition of sanctions on Iran, Russia and Turkey is a strong common point for expansion of cooperation, he added.

The Leader also stressed the need for conducting economic transactions by ditching dollar.

“It is not acceptable that we fully abide by our commitments under the nuclear deal, while other parties do not comply with their own commitments,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.

He went on to add that Iran would adopt a position on the nuclear deal that would be in the best interest of national interests and dignity.

The Leader further maintained that Saudi Arabia would not achieve its desired results in Yemen, and that the country would fail to bring the resilient people of Yemen to their knees, MNA reported.

The Russian president, for his part, said the two sides have discussed cooperation in the energy sector in particular, including the construction of a new nuclear power plant and electrification of Iran’s railways, as well as increasing Iran’s oil exports.

The US is making a strategic mistake by imposing restrictions on financial transactions, because it is undermining the global trust in dollar at the expense of a short-term political victory, Putin stressed.

He then noted that the JCPOA issue will be the next topic of discussion in bilateral talks with Iranian president, and voiced regret over lack of commitment by other sides to the nuclear agreement.

Putin also maintained that Europe is, in practice, following Washington’s lead in undermining the JCPOA, although they may say they are seeking ways to preserve the agreement.

Unity, most important need of Muslim World

In a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Ayatollah Khamenei said the most important need of the Muslim World today is increased closeness and synergy among Islamic countries, stating: “Closeness and cooperation among Islamic countries will surely pave the way for resolving the problems of our region; for this reason, the Arrogance Front with the US at its top, is troubled by the cooperation and friendly relations of Islamic countries and the formation of an Islamic power.
He described such concern as the reason behind animosity of the US towards powerful Islamic countries and added: “The Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkey are two powerful and dignified countries of the region and share the same motives for the Muslim World; thus, political and economic relations between the two countries should expand.”
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution referred to the existing cooperation and good relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkey since the coming into power of the pro-Islam movement in Turkey, and stressed: “The commonalities should be reinforced as much as possible.”
Ayatollah Khamenei appreciated the positions taken by Recep Tayyip Erdogan regarding the issue of Myanmar; then referring to the matter of Palestine, he reiterated: “The Palestinian cause is still very important and it should not be ignored even for a second.”
During this meeting, the Turkish President regarded the situation of the region as critical, and hoped that through cooperation among the Islamic countries, the problems of the region will be resolved, IRNA reported.
Erdogan regarded lack of coherence and unity among Islamic countries as the reason behind the current situation and stated: “As a result of the behavior of the West towards independent Islamic countries, the situation has become extremely sensitive. For the same reason, solidarity and fraternity should expand, in particular, between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkey.”
