Bahrain court to issue Sheikh Ali Salman’s sentence on May 30

Sheikh Ali Salman

SHAFAQNA – A Bahraini Appeals Court decided on Monday (April 11, 2016) to issue its verdict in the Al-Wefaq Secretary-General Sheikh Ali Salman’s case on May 30.

The court had sentenced Sheikh Salman to four years in prison over a speech he delivered late December 2014, in which he called for putting an end to the ruling Al Khalifa family’s monopoly over power and transitioning towards a democratic system.

Amnesty International stated that it read the address made by the opposition leader and did not find any statement calling for violence or inciting hatred against a certain sect, which are the charges raised by the Public Prosecution against Salman.
