SHAFAQNA- Iqna: An international conference is planned to be held in the Lebanese capital on Wednesday on the popular uprising in Bahrain.
The Ramada Plaza Hotel in Beirut will host the conference, named “8 Years of Repression in Bahrain under International Science”.
According to lualuatv.com website, the Bahrain Tolerance and Dialogue Center will organize the event in cooperation with the Bahraini Center for Human Rights.
Ways used by the Al Khalifa regime for crackdown on dissent, repression of freedom of expression, and dissolving political opposition societies, will be among the topics of the conference.
Bahrain, a close ally of the US in the Persian Gulf region, has been witnessing almost daily protests against the ruling Al Khalifa dynasty since early 2011, with Manama using heavy-handed measures in an attempt to crush the demonstrations.
Scores of Bahrainis have been killed and hundreds of others injured and arrested in the ongoing crackdown on the peaceful demonstrations.
Amnesty International and many other international rights organizations have frequently censured the Bahraini regime for the rampant human rights abuses against opposition groups and anti-regime protesters.
