Can dowry be taken out of husband’s assets without his permission? The Grand Ayatollah Shobairi’s answer

SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Shobairi Zanjani answered a question about dowry.

Question: I am a woman who has been separated from her husband but I have not received my entire dowry. Also some of my ex-husband’s assets are with me. Can I take those assets instead of my dowry with assumption that he may not be satisfied with this?

The Grand Ayatollah Shobairi: There is no problem if you are owed the dowry and the time for the payment has come and his assets are more than the law of exceptions according to religion, and still he refuses to pay. Otherwise, it is not allowed.
