SHAFAQNA - In line with the tenets of Islam and the teachings of the Holy Prophet(SAW) to show love during Ramadan, Muslims in the Canadian city of Mississauga came together to raise funds for a church.
The Catholic church of St. Catherine of Siena is the beneficiary of this act of love and benevolence.
Sources say the Muslims donated an undisclosed amount of money, running into thousands of dollars to the Church to help its rebuilding project.
The Church was vandalised by hoodlums last month.
In an interview with Toronto Star, Hamid Slimi, Imam of theSayeda Khadija Centre in Mississauga said “It was a very bad scene. The guy who did it ripped pages out of the Bible. He broke the altar. He threw the cross.â€
Father Camillo Lando, the priest in charge of the Church, expressed his appreciation for the donation, adding that he would inform the members of the kind act.
Lando said ‘I will tell my congregation that it was really a beautiful and generous gesture on their part. And also it’s an act of confidence and understanding. We are walking together in this community. We keep our faith, and we have to honour and respect people of other faiths.’
