The circumstances in which Surah Al-Insaan was revealed to the Prophet of Islam (PBUH)

SHAFAQNA – Imam Hassan (AS) and Imam Hussain (AS) in their childhood became ill and their parents Imam Ali (AS) and Lady Fatimah Zahra (AS) made a vow that if their children are cured, they would fast for three days. They fulfilled their vows and when they were sitting around to break their fast (Iftar), a poor person knocked on their house door and said: Asslamu Alaykum, O’ the family of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), I am a poor Muslim; feed me from whatever you are eating. They gave their food (the first night) to the poor, and slept hungry, and ate nothing except drinking some water. The day after, they fasted, and as they were preparing to break their fast, an orphan came to their doorstep and said: Asslamu Alaykum, O’ the family of the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), I am a Muslim orphan; feed me from whatever you are eating.

All the members of the family (for the second night) gave their food to the orphan, and spent that night hungry and did not eat anything except drinking water. The day after the same happened, and this time a prisoner from disbelievers came to the door step and said: Assalamu Alaykum, O’ the family of Mohammad (PBUH); you take us as prisoner but do not feed us? That night (the third night), they gave their food to the prisoner, and broke their fast (Iftar) with water, and slept hungry. The next day, the Prophet of Islam (PBUH) saw all of them are shaking due to hunger. At this time, the Divine Angel, Jabrail (AS) came down and said: O’ Mohammad (PBUH), take what Allah (SWT) has prepared for Ahlul Bait (AS); and Jabrail (AS) revealed the holy Ayahs (verses) of Surah Al-Insaan to the Prophet of Allah (SWT) [1].
