CNN.com/ Female suicide bomber kills 1, injures 7 in Nigeria

SHAFAQNA (International Shia News Association) A female suicide bomber on Wednesday blew herself up at a teacher training college in central Nigerian town of Potiskum, killing one and injuring seven, witnesses said.

The explosion at Federal College of Education Kontagoro, 190 kilometers (118 miles) from Niger state capital Minna, occurred about 12:30 p.m. as students were writing their end of semester examination.

“She tried to enter the class but before she could reach the door the bomb concealed in her dress exploded,” said student Abashe Ado.

“A female student close to the suicide bomber was killed and seven others were seriously injured.” The bomber, who was also killed, “was dismembered from ‎the explosion,” Ado said.

Andrew Randa, a teacher at the school, said there was blood everywhere. He saw four bodies laying down. Three of them looked lifeless. And another seemed to have been decapitated.

Niger state police spokesman Ibrahim Gambari confirmed an explosion in the school but did not give details.

“We received reports of explosion at the Federal College of Education Kontagora, but we are still awaiting details from our men on the ground,” Gambari said.

The attack comes two days after at least 49 students were killed and 86 injured in a suicide attack on a government secondary school in the northeast Nigerian town of Potiskum which the police blamed on Boko Haram.

A suicide bomber disguised as a‎ student detonated a bomb in the midst of hundreds of students as they gathered for a morning speech from teachers.

Although Boko Haram has carried out deadly attacks in Niger state, Kontagora has been largely spared the Islamist group’s attacks.

The Kontagora attack is the second attack on a teacher training school blamed on Boko Haram.

On September 17, at least 13 students were killed and several injured when gunmen believed to be Boko Haram insurgents opened fire and hurled explosives in a lecture hall in the Federal College of Education in northern Nigerian city of Kano.
