Desire for peace must not be misunderstood as weakness: Nawaz Sharif

Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif said on Friday that Pakistan’s desire to maintain peace must not be misinterpreted as its weakness by India.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was chairing the National Security Committee (NSC) here today during which a two-point agenda came under discussion. The PM expressed his views on the on-going military operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan and his maiden visit to Miranshah.

The committee also reviewed the situation that has emerged in the face of Indian aggression along the Line of Control and the Sialkot Working Boundary during the past few days, resulting in twelve civilian deaths in Pakistan.

The committee was briefed on the losses caused by India shelling as well as Pakistan Army’s response to the New Delhi’s violation of ceasefire.

While addressing the NSC, PM Nawaz said that the operation is progressing successfully in North Waziristan and that our valiant soldiers are fighting with bravery which is commendable.

PM Nawaz told the committee that he witnessed militant hideouts during his visit to Miranshah on Thursday. He further stated that the government will make all efforts to address the problems of IDPs of North Waziristan and for their rehabilitation.

The meeting was attended by Army Chief General Raheel Sharif, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Rashid Mehmood, DG ISI Lt Gen Zaheerul Islam, Defence Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed, and National Security Adviser Sartaj Aziz and other high security officials.
