SHAFAQNA – The Grand Ayatollah Shobairi Zanjani answered a question about donating eggs to infertility clinics.
Question: Some women donate eggs to infertility clinics and a contract is signed between the donor and the receiver, is such an act allowed?
The Grand Ayatollah Shobairi: Generally, conception of egg and sperm of non-husband and wife even outside the womb is Haram. But if they become a couple in religious ways even for temporary period, and conception happens, there is no problem in that. In all cases where conception is allowed if obtaining egg or sperm or transferring to womb require touching or looking, these acts are not allowed unless in emergency cases where there are no other ways. Of course if a Muslim egg is conceived outside the womb and protecting it requires renting a womb, even if all the Haram acts cannot be stopped, it is allowed and it is Wajeb.
