SHAFAQNA- Science, the most dreaded of all subjects, can be a lot more fun for your child if you introduce it in their day-to-day life through fun-filled activities. After all, there are biology lessons in your own backyard, and chemistry in your kitchen. Here are a few ways to do it:
Explore together: While academics is important, real learning occurs beyond the classroom. So, take your child out to the park in the neighbourhood or be a part of field trips, where you could help your kid identify different types of leaves, birds or insects. It’s also a great way to teach them about climate, photosynthesis and other natural phenomena.
Visit science centres: Going out for a kid’s movie is not always the best form of entertainment. Make learning fun by planning a visit to a natural history museum, a zoo, an aquarium or planetarium. Such places offer a fun interactive experience for your child to understand and learn.
Turn kitchen into a lab: Simple experiments like making a volcano out of baking soda and vinegar, or a geyser out of dropping a few mentos in a fizzy drink, is one of the best ways to give your child lessons in chemistry. Read up about easy science projects and perform them together.
Invest in a microscope and telescope: You don’t have to buy an expensive one, even a basic microscope and telescope can make a world of difference. Study the patterns on the wings of a butterfly or identify constellations while gazing at the night sky.
Encourage questions: Science is all about arousing curiosity. Encourage your child to observe things around them and ask questions. Why is the sky blue? What makes ships float? Even if you are not sure about the answer, look for it together.
