Federica Mogherini to replace Catherine Ashton as the new EU Foreign Policy Cheif

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) – The 41 year old Italian Mrs Mogherini has been named the EU’s foreign policy chief, only seven months after she was moved from parliament in Rome and named foreign minister of her own country. In July, Mrs Mogherini’s candidacy was successfully blocked by Eastern European member states, worried she would do little to stop the Russians pushing on Ukraine.

A fluent English and French speaker, Mrs Mogherini graduated from Rome’s Sapienza University with a degree in political science after writing a thesis on politics and Islam during a stint at the Institute for Research and Studies on the Arab World in Aix-en-Provence.

On her blog, named “BlogMog”, she reveals she worked in a call centre after leaving school and reads thrillers. “Federica is more of the scholarly type, a brilliant student of international relations who discovered a passion for politics,” said Nicola Pedde, the director of the Institute for Global Studies in Rome. “She has done well on Africa policy, and in Italy, where you get no respect in politics unless you are 100 years old, she has proved people wrong. Now, she can do that again in Europe.”
