French and German leaders present proposals to end Ukraine war

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association) – The French president said he would travel to Kiev with the German chancellor on Thursday (5 Jan.), to find a peaceful to the Ukrainian conflict.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the Friday meeting of Putin with Merkel and Hollande, RIA Novosti reported on Thursday.

“I can confirm that indeed tomorrow [Friday] Putin, Merkel and Hollande will have talks. The leaders of the three states will discuss what specifically the countries can do to contribute to speedy end of the civil war in the southeast of Ukraine, which has escalated in recent days and resulted in many casualties,” Peskov said.

“Together with Angela Merkel we have decided to take a new initiative,” Hollande told a news conference. “We will make a new proposal to solve the conflict which will be based on Ukraine’s territorial integrity.”

“Then, on Friday, we will discuss the initiative with the Russian president in Moscow, since we are short of time,”Hollande said.
