SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association)

Drinking like a “vampire” has become the latest trend among Chinese youngsters who are happily buying beverages packaged in blood bags.

The habit of guzzling down blood-like drinks has been spreading in China for at least a few years but it really kicked off when the US hit series The Vampire Diaries started its fifth season in October 2013.

The show has breathed new life into the “blood drinking” trend as it often features “vampires” enjoying a tasty meal from a blood bag.

Both online stores and cafés in China have started selling a peculiar drink called “B-type blood energy potion”, reported China News Service.

And recently a vampire-themed restaurant that serves the “blood bag” drink was opened in Benxi, Liaoning Province, according to Money.163.com.

The fruity drink is advertised as “the world’s first blood substitute beverage”. According to sellers, it “has the same texture, color and nutrients as blood but it doesn’t taste like blood.”

List of ingredients says that the drink contains sodium, potassium, iron, protein, carbohydrates and etc.

Those who are not willing to drink something that looks too much like blood can choose to buy blue, yellow or orange beverages that still come in blood bags.

The rainbow-colored drinks are especially popular among teenagers.
