SHAFAQNA (International Shia News Association)- The standoff between Greece and the eurozone is fast becoming the biggest risk to the global economy and it is also a rising threat to Britain’s economy, U.K. Treasury chief George Osborne said Monday after meeting with Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis.
“In Europe as in Britain now is the time to choose competence over chaos. I urged the Greek finance minister to act responsibly, but it is also important that the eurozone has a better plan for jobs and growth,” he said in a short statement.
Mr. Osborne, whose Conservative Party is fighting a general election in May on a platform of continued austerity, said Britain had a plan to foster jobs and growth and now wasn’t the time to abandon it.
The Greek finance minister met Mr. Osborne in London as part of a tour of European capitals to seek to convince eurozone countries to roll back the terms of his country’s €240 billion bailout.
