Hezbollah: Middle East violence not sectarian conflict

SHAFAQNA (Shia International News Association)- The leader of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah says violence in the Middle East is not a sectarian conflict.

Hezbollah Secretary General Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah made the comments while personally addressing large crowds of Lebanese people on the occasion of the ninth day of the lunar month of Muharram, known as Tasua, in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital city of Beirut on Monday.

“We must realize that the conflict in the region is not a sectarian conflict between Sunnis and Shias,” Nasrallah said.

He went on to add that a political conflict is actually going on between different powers in the region.

The Hezbollah secretary general referred to the ISIL’s atrocities against Izadi Kurds in Iraq and residents of the northern Syrian city of Kobani along with the Takfiri infighting as proof that the violence has nothing to do with sectarianism.

“The battles between ISIL and the Nusra Front, or the Nusra Front and other rival factions, could this be characterized as a Sunni-Shia conflict?,” he asked, adding, “In Kobani, is the struggle Sunni-Shia one? There are no Shias in Kobani. The exodus of Christians in Iraq and Syria has also nothing to do with Sunni-Shia conflict.”

The ISIL Takfiri terrorists currently control large areas of territory across Syria and Iraq. They have committed terrible atrocities in both countries, including mass executions and beheading of local residents as well as foreign nationals.

Narsallah also said the armed clashes in Egypt and Libya are not Sunni-Shia conflicts.

“A misdiagnosis of a disease will delay treatment. The same applies to political struggles. A mistake in diagnosing the source of a political conflict would disrupt and delay treatment,” he said.
