How to Get Rid of Milk Stains

SHAFAQNA-

There is nothing smellier than old milk stains that just won’t go. The longer you let milk stains sit, the stronger they are going to smell due to rotting. The best solution would be to blot it up as soon as it is spilled and prevent it from being absorbed by the fabric. But of course this doesn’t always work. The sooner the stain is dealt with, the lesser it will smell and easier it is to remove it.

Here’s how to get rid of those nasty milk stains:

1. Simply blotting and vacuuming.

2. Using organic cleansers.

3. Washing in the case of carpets.

4. Using baking soda.

5. Using lemon juice.

6. Using vinegar.

7. Using leather cleanser.

Blotting and vacuuming

When milk is spilt on sofas or couches, it gets absorbed rapidly and becomes difficult to be removed. As soon as the milk is spilt, press on the spot with an absorbent material like a sponge or a terry cloth. This will remove at least some of the excess milk. After this, use a wet-dry shop vacuum on the spot to remove the rest of the moisture. Sometimes sprinkling cold water on the spot and then vacuuming it helps by diluting the smell. But be careful not to spread the stain.

Using organic cleansers

Since milk is organic, using cleansing agents that are organic might help. Certain chemicals may cause the milk to cook, making it smell even more. Use any commercially available enzyme odor remover to take care of the smell. If the stain smells even after using cleansers, leave it out in the sun for a little while. This will draw out the milk and remove the smell.

Washing carpets

Milk stains on carpets are comparatively easier to remove. If the carpet is washable, simple soaking it in cold water will remove the stain. If the smell persists, use a detergent that is suitable for the carpet.

Using baking soda

If the stain is old, using baking soda on it might help to remove the smell. Sprinkle some baking soda on the stain. Sprinkle a few droplets of water on the soda till it gets absorbed. Allow this to sit overnight. Brush off the dried up baking soda and vacuum the spot.

Using lemon juice

If all else fails, lemon juice can be used to remove the stain. Spray a little lemon juice on the stain and allow it to sit for some time, approximately fifteen minutes or so. Sprinkle some water on it and blot with a piece of clean cloth or vacuum it. This will remove even the toughest milk stains. Also since lemon is a natural deodorizer, your carpets and furniture will smell very fresh and nice. Sometimes exposing the spot to sunlight after putting lemon juice on it will cause it to lighten and remove the stain since lemon juice is a natural bleach.

Using vinegar

For old stains that smell a lot, treat the spot with a little white vinegar and allow it to sit for fifteen minutes or so. Then remove the excess vinegar by blotting with a towel or blotting paper.

Using leather cleanser

In the case of car seats which have leather covering, wipe off the milk with a wet cloth. Ensure that all the corners and crevices are clean. Allow the seat to dry for a while and use a commercially available leather cleanser on it.

Milk stains are easy to tackle if taken care of immediately. With a little effort, your old carpets and furniture will be as good as new and you can save a lot of money by eliminating the need to reupholster or replace carpets.
