In Bahrain one year for criticizing King Hamad

SHAFAQNA ( Exclusive ) – A Shia man sentenced to 12 months behind bars for defaming King Hamad has lost his appeal. The Bahraini, aged 22, was convicted of insulting the King at a ma’atam in Arad, according to court documents. He was sentenced by the Lower Criminal Court and the verdict was upheld by the High Criminal Appeals Court yesterday. ‘The defendant was seen holding a loudspeaker and saying insulting phrases against the King,’ stated the court verdict.He was also fined BD1,000.
