Visakhapatnam has yet to recover from the trail of devastation left behind by Cyclone Hudhud, but the city may be in for more trouble.
As per reports, a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal has already turned into a depression and may further develop into a deep depression, before moving towards Visakhapatnam.
Reports quoted the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) as saying that the monsoon depression was located around 700 kilometres away from Visakhapatnam – near the same spot where Cyclone Hudhud formed.
A warning has already been issued by the Joint Typhoon Warning Centre at Pearl Harbour which states that the depression will eventually develop into a tropical cyclone due to the presence of favourable climatic conditions.
The authorities in Andhra Pradesh have already taken note of the potential threat.
Visakhapatnam District Collector N Yuvaraj is reported to have held an emergency meeting with revenue, panchayati raj, civil supplies as well as medical and health departments.
The focus of the authorities this time is on ensuring that the communication system doesn’t collapse unlike last time when Cyclone Hudhud stuck.
