Soldier who went missing during patrolling in Siachen has been traced after 21 years. In 1993, the 30-year-old TV Patil had fallen into an open glacier crack and went untracable. As the temperature in the region remains below 0 degrees, his dead body did not decompose.

A group of soldiers was on an operational patrol at world’s highest battlefield Siachen when they found the body.

When the matter was further investigated, it came to light that it was the dead body of Maharashtra’s constable Thukaram Vithoba Patil. He was recognised by a medical certificate and a letter recovered from his pocket.

TV Patil’s brother who was also deployed in Siachen lost his life in an avalanche. It has been 27 years since the incident happened. He was the soldier of Maratha Light Infantry.

It is notable that this year in August, the body of constable Gaya Prasad was also found in a glacier crack. He had fallen into the deep cut in the year 1996. The temperature at Siachen also reaches upto freezing -60 degrees celsius.

According to sources, Patil lost his way while collecting the relief supplies air dropped by helicopters in the region in 1993 and fell into glacier. The fellow soldiers tried to rescue him but his snow gloves slipped and he fell deep in the glacier.
