Indonesia: Political use of mosques banned

SHAFAQNA- The Indonesian mosque council has banned the use of mosques for political activities.

According to Iran’s Cultural Adviser in Indonesia, the Indonesian mosque council has banned the use of mosques as means of practical political action for short-term interests. However, the mosque council fully supports the democratic, peaceful and democratic process.
This was stated by Shafruddin, Vice chairman of the mosque council, at the first national meeting in Jakarta on Friday. The program was initiated by Vice President and head of the mosque council Jusuf Kalla.

The national meeting was held with the participation of about 250 members of the central, regional and independent institutions of mosques.
Shafruddin, who is the minister for the empowerment of state apparatus and bureaucratic reform, stated that the ban on the use of mosques as a political activity is one of the statements made by the meeting. Six other statements have been submitted at the national working meeting.
Other statements include the internal issues of the mosque council, such as strengthening general preparedness, expediting implementation, intensifying mosque council plans, codification, preparing for succession at all levels of the mosque council, and so on.
At the same time, he also established two autonomous bodies under the auspices of the mosque council, the Municipal Youth Association and the Islamic Kindergarten Education Institute.

Jusuf Kalla said in his speech that all the goals and plans anticipated by the mosque council have so far gone well, including the efforts to boost mosques.
According to him, several years ago, the council tried to improve the physical appearance of mosque buildings and equipment. Subsequently, it improves the human resources of mosque officials throughout Indonesia.
He concluded, “These mosques are the power to increase the dignity of the Ummah.”
