SHAFAQNA – The government is feverishly attempting to provide the necessary aid, considering the temperatures fell close to freezing point for two consecutive nights.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani visited Kermanshah Province to view the areas where the devastating earthquake struck.

Rouhani offered his condolences to the people of the quake-stricken region, adding that the government will issue reconstruction grants and loans to boost the rebuilding process to replace some of the reported 12,000 destroyed dwellings.

The president promised that his administration hopes to initiate reconstruction projects soon in a show of support for the people who have been harmed or displaced by the 7.3-magnitude earthquake.

The head of state took the opportunity to acknowledge condolences conveyed by foreign countries.

Head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, Maj. Gen. Mohammad Ali Jafari, said that the immediate needs were tents, water and food.

“Newly constructed buildings… held up well, but the old houses built with earth were totally destroyed,” he told state TV.

The leader of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has also sent a delegation to the province to view relief and rescue operations and assess damages.

Almost three dozen Red Crescent teams are in the zone, IRNA reported.

The tremor resulted in the death of about 430 people and wounded over 7,000.

Almost 200 aftershocks have hit the region since the quake struck on Sunday night.
